Curious about freediving but not ready to commit to a multi-day course? The Freediving Trial is a half day, designed to give you a real taste of what apnea actually feels like.

We start on dry land with breathing exercises — diaphragm work, relaxation, the mammalian dive reflex. Then a session in shallow water learning the static and dynamic basics. Finally, one ocean session at a calm shallow site where you’ll experience your first proper breath-hold descent under the eye of a buddy.

If you’re hooked (most people are), the cost of today is credited toward SSI Freediving Level 1 if you continue with us within 30 days. Message us at freedivegiliair@gmail.com or via WhatsApp.

Frequently asked

I'm not athletic — can I do this?

Freediving is more about relaxation than fitness. Most people are surprised how long they can hold their breath after one hour of guided breathing exercises. If you can sit still and follow instructions, you can freedive.

How is this different from snorkeling?

Snorkeling stays on the surface. Freediving teaches you the breath-hold, the equalisation, and the body position to actually descend below the surface in control — and come back up safely with a buddy.

How deep will I go on the trial?

A maximum of 10 metres, usually 5–8 m. The point is the experience, not the depth. [SSI Freediving Level 1](/en/freediving/freediving-level-1/) takes you to 20 m once you're certified.

I have asthma — is freediving safe for me?

Asthma is a contraindication for freediving. We ask you to fill in a short medical questionnaire before booking and to bring a doctor's clearance if anything on it is yes. Honesty here keeps everyone safe.

Will the trial day count toward Level 1?

Yes — if you continue with us to [SSI Freediving Level 1](/en/freediving/freediving-level-1/) within 30 days, the cost of your trial day is credited against your course price. You don't pay twice for the same skills.

Can I bring my own mask, snorkel and fins?

Of course. Freediving fins are longer than scuba fins, but if you have a comfortable mask and snorkel bring them. We supply long fins, wetsuit and weights as part of the day.
