Never breathed underwater before? Today is the day.
Our SSI Basic Diver programme is a half-day, no-pressure introduction to the underwater world. You’ll be paired with a dedicated SSI Instructor — not in a group of fifteen — who walks you through every step before you ever put your face under.
How this half day unfolds
We start with a relaxed briefing over coffee at the dive centre. Your instructor explains how pressure works, the few hand signals you’ll need, and what the gear does. Nothing scary, no thick textbook.
We move to our confined-water training area — a calm two-metre pool, 20 metres long — to practise the five skills every diver uses: clearing your mask, recovering your regulator, equalising your ears, signalling, and moving slowly along the bottom. Most people are blowing bubbles confidently within thirty minutes.
After a break we take the boat to one of the shallow reefs around Gili Air or Gili Meno. One open-water dive with your instructor at arm’s reach, to a maximum of twelve metres. Turtle sightings are almost guaranteed. Schools of damselfish and surgeonfish wash over the coral; if you’re lucky an eagle ray cruises past in the deeper blue.
What’s included
- One half day with a personal SSI Instructor
- All scuba equipment (mask, fins, BCD, regulator, wetsuit, tank, weights)
- Pool training session in our 2-metre, 20-metre-long confined-water area
- One boat dive at our local reef (max 12 metres)
- Underwater photos and video as a paid add-on if you’d like to remember it forever
Cost credit toward full certification
If you continue with us to an SSI Scuba Diver or SSI Open Water certification within the next twelve months, the cost of your Basic Diver course is credited against your course price. You don’t pay twice for skills you already have.
Want more time underwater? Have a look at our Dive After Intro — extra guided dives to 12 metres at 800,000 IDR each, same afternoon or any of the following days. No theory, no skills check, just you and the reef again.
Ready to try? Use the inquiry form below or message us on WhatsApp — we’ll confirm a slot for tomorrow.
Looking for “PADI Discover Scuba Diving”?
You may have searched for “PADI DSD Gili Air”. We’ve moved fully to SSI certification — but our instructors hold both PADI and SSI ratings, and the intro-dive programmes are equivalent. Bibi, our founder, was a PADI IDC Staff for many years before becoming an SSI Instructor Trainer in 2013; almost everyone on the team is dual-rated. Same dive, different agency.
Frequently asked
Do I need to know how to swim?
Yes, basic swimming ability is required — you should feel comfortable in the water. You don't need to be an athlete; a relaxed swim and a few minutes of floating is enough.
I wear glasses. Can I still dive?
Of course. We can fit you with a prescription mask, or you can dive with contact lenses. Let us know in advance and we'll have the right setup ready.
What if I decide to get certified afterwards?
Wonderful — the cost of your Basic Diver course counts toward your full SSI Open Water or Scuba Diver certification if you continue within twelve months. You won't pay twice for the same skills.
How deep will we actually go?
We stay at a maximum of 12 metres. Most of your dive will be between 6 and 10 metres, where the light is best and the reef life is most active.
